The Return of the Asshole

Howdy there! Yep, you read it right. The ASSHOLE is back! I mean, don't we all need a visit from an old curmudgeon every now and then eh? Folks tell me they allow this just because it makes them feel better about themselves. Hmmm...*wink*

Well here he is once again, that ol' Dirt Bag Shitehead, better known as "DeeBee". The son of a gun who was raised West of the Pecos, reared by coyotes, adopted by vultures, and wholly educated by the Chihuahuan Desert herself...

A gnarly one, that one.

You see, D.B. went off on one of his hermit-like spells where he pushes everyone away and hides out between a rock and a hard spot. He likes it like that and I reckon he gains much from it. Whats more, he has been used and abused and truly misused by every biped he'd come across and this was mostly on account that he was often seldom understood. I'll be damned! The guy is an oxymoron, a paradox, and a jinx all rolled into one. Ya jest caint figger him out no matta how hard you try. While you scratch your head he scratches his balls.

Did I say prickly?
You bet!

Well anyhow...of his recent walkabout and period of meditation he came back belligerently hollering yet eloquently speaking, as if in an oratory, before the Ghost Town and this is what he had to say:

"Did it never occur to you that perhaps one of the largest reasons Deaf people, in general, get ridiculed and discriminated by society, age-mates, and popular culture is because they have been forced to subscribe to a means of communication that merely affords many them the ability to bark, snark, howl, yowl, stutter, mutter, screech, shriek, slur, blur, moan, groan, WHINE! CRY! and YELL?

Making everything all too incoherent.

When in the event of the Deaf trying to convey ones thoughts, feelings, and emotions through such means, they struggle. They strain themselves to the point that awkwardness, discomfort, fear, frustration, and anger overcome them. When such happens, it becomes a spectacle before the ignorant eyes of their hearing peers and further reinforces the stigma that surrounds the state of being Deaf.

Further isolating the isolated into a dark cave of embarrassment, shame, and guilt.

Is it no wonder that the very ideology of helping, or better put, 'correcting' deafness actually harms them, their mind, body, and spirit? This is more so when such "help" has chosen to ignore the many cases of their failed attempts to get one who hears not, to speak, act, work, function, and perform as if they were one who does. As a result, the failures are left regarded as misfits, truants, and rebels who joined a fallacy called Deafhood and consider American Sign Language as being a true language. This very way of seeing things disables the hearing majority from ever attaining any grasp or concept of understanding audism. Of course, you can argue that such even exists and I respect that. I respect the fact that many of you are comfortable with your shallow, shrewd, and narrow understanding of ethnicity, culture, language, and ultimately, humanity. I mean we are, after all, just a dumb animal that thinks its our place to attain control of the Natural. What the fuck do we know? Really.

Yet,...in my heart of hearts, I sense what is just."

After such a poetic yet hectic presentation of speech done with raging eloquence, the porch fell silent and heads hung low with shame. With the locals downtrodden by yet another tale of hard luck and tough times and the tourists standing in bewildered amazement that such a scruffy, mangy, and dirty looking old man could recite such prose, I begged a question to ol' DeeBee?

Hey buddy, why is this stuff so important to you when you live way out here?

His response was this:

"Because, for one, you ignorant minions of modern society have absolutely no dook of an idea. Two: you don't know audism until it affects you. Three: Because I'm Deaf, you sons-of-bitches! That is capital D for DAMMIT!"

Yep, that old bastard is back in town...
